Solar E-Clips - Replacement Battery
Rechargeable batteries need to be topped up prior to depleting the entire charge and should stay partly charged at all times, in the rare case that your battery appears to be “dead on arrival” and you have attempted the above trouble shooting, please call 203-287-0636 for a replacement battery (original receipt required to honor 1 year warranty).
If your Solar E-Clips is out of warranty and you can not get your lights to stay on, then you need a replacement 6-volt NiCad Rechargable Battery. Both the 14 Light & 28 Light sets use the same battery.
TO REPLACE YOUR BATTERY THERE ARE TWO METHODS:
- REMOVE FRONT FACE PLATE COVER
Using a Phillips-head screwdriver (star shape) remove the 4 screws (see #1 photo above) located at each corner of the front facing control panel (the panel with the on/off buttons and light string connector). Using a Slot-head screwdriver (straight shape) GENTLY pry open the sealed face plate cover. Be careful not to apply too much pressure to the polyresin rock material when prying open the cover, surface chipping and cracking may occur. Carefully move the face plate cover to the side ensuring you do not pull forcefully on the wires connecting the control panel (see #2 photo), which is mounted to the back side of the face plate cover. Moving panel to the side will expose the battery allowing you to replace it (see #3 photo). Remove the positive and negative wire contacts from the battery posts and install new battery (see #4 photo). Replace rubberized gasket, then the face plate and finally screw the face plate back in place (see #5 photo).
- REMOVE SOLAR PANEL TO ACCESS BATTERY (Older rocks only)
Begin by removing the two plastic caps on either side of the solar panel located on the top of the rock. Removing these plastic caps will reveal the screws underneath. Remove the two screws using a Philips head screw driver (star shape). Gently pry the plastic frame surrounding the solar panel away from the rock. There will be another frame located beneath the “visible” frame which seals the top of the rock from the elements. Carefully remove the solar panel and frame from the top of the rock in one piece (do not separate the solar panel from the plastic frame).
IMPORTANT: when you remove the solar panel leave all wires in tact and remove the two screws securing the battery to the inside bottom of the rock. Now remove the wire connection from the battery posts and slip the battery out of the cradle (discard battery at a proper recycling facility). Replace the wires on the correct positive and negative posts of your NEW battery and return the NEW battery to the battery cradle. Replace the bracket over the battery and screw in place. Replace solar panel in proper position on the top of the rock and screw in place. Cover screw holes with the plastic caps. Your rock is ready to be charged by the sun.
