1/24/2013 – I have a small (125 Gallon) pond and would like to know which deicer would be appropriate.
Response From TJB-INC: Because of the size, a smaller wattage one will work. Either the 100, 200, 300 watt heater.
11/23/2009 – my pond is 10tft x 10ft 5f x 1ft 18ooo galons would one heater be ok wich would be best to use thanks i got koi carp mix fish
Response From TJB-INC: Yes, one heater will be fine. If you have a heavy fish load, you may want to add a small pump or aerator to add oxygen to the water when the waterfalls are turned off. The heater will keep a hole open so the methane gasses do not build up under the ice. Instead, they are allow to vent out the open hole.
10/25/2009 – HI MY NAME IS SHARON , I HAVE SMALL GOLDFISH, MY POND IS ABOUT 350 GALLONS, 4X8X2. DO I NEED TO TURN OFF MY WATERFALL? AND IF SO HOW DO I FILTER AND CIRCULATE THE WATER.IS THIS AUQUADEICER WHAT I NEED TO KEEP ALIVE IN WINTER, I LIVE IN CHICAGO LAND AREA, IT GETS COLD. THANKS SO MUCH.
Response From TJB-INC: You should try to keep the waterfall running as long as possible late in the year. When it becomes too cold and ice is forming on the pond, then you can shut down the pump and rely on a heater to keep a hole open in the ice. This hole will allow the build up of toxic gasses that would build up under the ice to escape and not harm the fish. Whne it becomes warm enough, turn the waterfall back on to replenish the oxygen in the pond water for the fish.
10/3/2009 – i want a heater to maintain 50 deg f in my 300 gal koi pond so my koi and carp can eat if they want in iowas sub freezing winter.
Response From TJB-INC: Not a good idea. The metabolism of the fish slows down when the water temp gets below 55 degrees. If you try to feed them you can do more damage than good. The fish should only be fed from water temps greater than 55 degrees. Your plants that take in the extra nutrients will not process the nutrients if the air temperature is below 40 degrees. Are you going to warm the air as well? It sounds very expensive. You should just let the fish go through their cycle of hybernation or set up an indoor aquarium and bring the fish inside for the winter.
None of the heaters we sell will adequately warm the water enough. They are only made to keep a hole open in the ice.
9/19/2009 – MY pond is about 10ftx4ft and about 700gallons of water. maybe 2 ft deep.I need a heater to deice and warm water, which is the best.I live in rhode island very cold in winter and a lot of snow.
Response From TJB-INC: There is a difference between warming the water and deicing. Any one of the heaters we sell will work to keep a hole open in the ice. If you want to warm the water, you will need a trough heater that is used for livestock in the winter. ShopTJB does not sell any of these kind of heaters yet.
