TJB-INC TIPS:

This our choice of black foam dispenser in our water feature construction division. It is very reliable and allows for quick & easy construction of waterfalls & streams. Remember to not remove the foam can unless it is empty. When you remove a foam can, you must use a cleaner can with a spray nozzle to remove any residual foam from the can attachment area. If you forget, when you put the new foam can on the gun, the left over foam will cause the new foam can to adhere to the gun permanently. You most likely have to purchase a new gun.

Remember to attach a cleaner can to the foam gun after every 4 foam cans to clean the gun of foam. Spray the cleaner through the gun until no more foam can be seen. If you plan on leaving the can on the gun for longer then 30 - 45 days, then you should remove the foam can and clean the gun with cleaner as described above.

Following these instructions will allow you to use your foam gun over and over again. If not, we have additional foam guns in stock if you need to order a replacement. We also recommend always having a clean back-up foam gun available on site if your primary gun clogs so you can finish your project with out any additional delays.

NOTE FROM SHOPTJB: For proper flow of foam, the foam can temperature must be above 50 degrees. If you are planning to use the foam when the outside temperatures are below 50 degrees, make sure to warm up the cans/foam by using a car or truck heater or put cans in the sun to warm up the foam. TJB-INC puts the foam cans on the dashboard of the truck in the sun and we use the truck's defroster to keep the cans warm when we are working in colder weather.

FAQ

Q: Every time I use an aerosol can, the foam dispenses when I put the straw on the trigger?
A: Always put the straw on the trigger BEFORE you screw the trigger on the valve. As you put pressure on the valve trying to secure the straw; you just started making a mess with a whipped cream can.

Q: That black foam is messy, is there anything that will take it off my hands?
A: First of all, to my knowledge all cans say USE GLOVES. But if you do get some on your skin use acetone. There are numerous brand names for foam cleaner upwards of $18 a quart (acetone) Go to your local hardware store and pick up a quart of acetone for about $3.

Q: What's the difference between a can that has metric versus an ounce measurement?
A: If you are currently using a can that is metric it is an import. Some companies market their product as a 16 oz can but if you do the math, you are only getting 15 ounces?

Q: Do all cans on the market have to be used upside down?
A: Not if you use ROCKIN FOAM. ROCKIN FOAM can dispense an ANY ANGLE.

Q: I always have to buy at least two of the standard 12 ounce size can, why isn't there a larger can available?
A: ROCKIN FOAM was designed as a true 20 oz can for this very reason.

Q: I don't like cans because if you do have some product left in the can, you can't use it at a later date?
A: ROCKIN FOAM is a reusable can so you can get maximum yield. Just seal the straw on the reserve nub and you can use the can up to 2 to 3 week later for another job.

Q: Why is it important to have product that inhibits ultra violet light?
A: For cosmetic and stability reasons. The color black retards foam degradation ONLY if the foam remains black. ROCKIN FOAM uses CARBON, NOT DYE. A dyed product will fade to a yellow brown color over time.

Q: Won't dyed foam eventually discolor with the algae and water?
A: Yes, BUT, the sun will still effect the degradation of the foam and you will still have a yellowish brown color where the foam does not come into contact with water.

Q: Cans suck! Why doesn't everyone use a cartridge gun?
A: Until the formulation of the 20 oz ROCKIN FOAM, the gun had an application. ROCKIN FOAM is reusable. If you compare the price of ROCKIN FOAM VS. the cost of the gun, cost of the cartridge AND the cost of that super duper $18 quart (acetone) cleaner and your time to clean your gun; ROCKIN FOAM is an obvious choice.

Q: I can get that yellow stuff at the big box super cheap. Why would I want to pay for black foam? When I can just paint the yellow foam black?
A: You must have a lot of free time on your hands and VERY cheap labor!

Q: I've heard that "triple expanding foam is the best"
A: You heard WRONG. Use ROCKIN FOAM as it is "MINIMAL EXPANDING". If you want to pay for more propellant and do a lot of trimming; triple expanding is the way to go. Minimal expanding has better density for secure rock placement.

Q: Why don't the triggers on the cans work?
A: They are too small and you have to use your thump on the valve and you have no control. ROCKIN FOAM has a LONG trigger and you can actually control how fast the foam expels from the can.

Q: Can you compete with my price?

This Black Expanding Foam is used to adhere rocks together and to fill the voids under rocks so water does not run under them. By filling the voids under and behind the rocks especially near waterfalls or elevation drops, the water will be forced to run in front of the rocks not disappearing behind them. TJB-INC's Foam Installation Tips:

When placing a flat rock down to use as as waterfall rock, use a bead of black foam between the liner and the bottom of the rock. This will seal any small gaps that water might escape under. The foam when dry, will also "glue" your rock in place.
Remember, the key word about this black foam is the term "expanding". A little will go a long way. If at first (and you will) you apply too much black foam and it starts to come up from between the gaps, do not panic! You can place gravel on top of the wet foam and hide the ever growing blobs of foam. Or you can wait 5 minutes until the foam has "skinned" over and then you can safely push down on it and stuff it back into the gaps from where it came from. BUT...If you touch the foam while it is wet, .... it does not come off your skin or clothes! Learn from what I am telling you. Your skin, you can clean with a pulmus stone in the shower, but your finger nails will bond with the foam and will eventually grow out after several weeks. (Been there, done that, many, many times!)
Do not be turned off by my horror stories. Black foam is a necessary part of Water Feature Construction. Wear gloves, and be careful. The foam will not cause any skin problems, for that it is safe. It just seems to get everywhere you do not want it to be.
If you pre-wet the stones and the liner before you apply the foam, the foam will adheare better than if the surfaces are dry. Not puddles! just moistened will work the best.
If you have a lot of area to foam or want to save time, I suggest purchasing the Professional Foam Gun Kit or a Foam Gun + ProFoam Can. It saves on the amount of foam you use, you can stop and start the flow of foam instantly, you can put the gun down and come back later to use it and it won't be all dried up like the DIY foam cans which are single use only.
