Super Sacks of SBR Rubber Crumb for Equestrian Area Footing

We offer (4) different sized rubber crumb products for Equestrian Footing

10/20 US Mesh is small sugar or salt sized granulars that are mainly used for arenas and can be mixed up to 50% with sand of similar size.
1mm - 3mm is slightly larger sized granulars than the 10/20 US Mesh. This size product is also mainly used for arenas and can be mixed up to 50% with sand of similar size.
1/4" Grind is the most common sized granular crumb that we sell. It is mostly used in arenas but can also be used in warm-up arenas, dry lots, and turn outs. It can be use alone or mixed up to 50% with similar sized 1/4" pebbles.
1/2" - 3/4" Chunk is used in warm-up arenas, dry lots, and turn outs.

NOTE: These are just a guide to the different sizes of rubber crumb availible. Please contact your trainer and/or vet to determine which size is best suited for your application(s).

The ¼" rubber footing can be used in indoor arenas and outdoor arenas and it has excelled in cold weather climates since it doesn’t freeze. The depth usually recommended for riding disciplines such as Western/Pleasure and Dressage, is 3 1/2 to 4 inches. For those that are training horses for Grand Prix-style jumping, we recommend a more supportive depth of 5 inches. For those training race horses on tracks and gallops we recommend 6 inches of footing for proper support.

Rubber chips provide a modern, cushioned surface in your arena to relieve stress on horse joints. Spreading a layer of rubber chips on your arena and mixing in to the surface improves drainage, performance, and comfort while reducing dust, compaction, and fatigue.

Training and Increased Performance

Horses can train harder and longer on rubber crumb because the arena footing works with the horse, not against it. Springing off the surface rather than struggling through it allows for proper and more efficient movement. Rubber Crumb is a forgiving arena surface that reduces the chance of injury; fewer injuries and chance of breakdown keeps training sessions consistent and cuts down on expensive rehabilitation bills. The best part? All of our rubber crumb footings are for both indoor arenas and outdoor arenas!
When a horse trains on rubber crumb, they build up confidence, which leads to better, more effective training and riding sessions. The consistent arena surface responds to the horse, providing them with uniform traction during difficult movements allowing them to feel confident in taking that step or making that jump in your riding arena. The consistency of the footing reduces stumbling, and the trainer will see faster improvements because the horse is focused on the training rather than where to place a hoof.

Little to No Maintenance

One of the biggest advantages of straight Rubber Crumb is the fact that is doesn’t need to be watered, ever (when not mixed with soil or sand). Eliminating water use saves money, and especially saves time that can now be invested in riding and training. If you have a busy commercial facility, no (or little when mixed with soil or sand) watering means a lot more time for riders to train and major savings in labor cost.
Rubber crumb mixed with soil or sand increases the soil porosity, enabling water to better penetrate into the base. Many of the crumbs contain embedded cord, such as nylon, rayon, or polyester, which absorb moisture when watered. This moisture retention promots enhanced dust control in your arena, while reducing the overall frequency of watering.
Most of our customers discover how easy Rubber Crumb it is to maintain. Since the footing resists compaction and virtually eliminates tracking, much of the grooming that is necessary with other footing types disappears. We recommend a light grooming for busy barns (10-30 horses per day) once or twice a week.
In addition to grooming less, the type of groomer required for rubber crumb is much smaller, less aggressive, and costs a lot less than traditional sand/soil grooming drags.

All Weather Design

Rubber Crumb track and arena footing is all weather indoors and out. The Rubber Crumb arena footing is water resistant, causing water to run off the surface or quickly wick out of the footing to the base leaving the footing ready for riding. Customers can ride on your arena footing shortly after heavy rains and swift temperature changes. The all-weather design allows you to train longer, harder, and more often.

How much will I need?

A depth of one or two inches of rubber chips is all that is required to provide you with noticeable benefits. Deeper layers of rubber chips may be required in certain arena situations.

Frequently Ased Questions about Rubber In-Fill Materials

Will the crumb rubber float away when it rains?

No, your crumb rubber in-fill material will not float away when it rains. The high density of crumb rubber will cause it to stay in place.

Is Rubber in-fill safe?

According to the EPA, crumb rubber in-fill can be used as ground cover under playground equipment and “possesses high impact attenuation/ability to absorb the energy from falling children and objects.”
Also the use of crumb rubber on athletic playing fields as a soil additive can increase the “resiliency of the field thereby decreasing injuries.” (See additional information below)

Installation Tips

Spreading rubber grinds is best done by hand. It is not possible to use a drop spreader with rubber grinds as it is with most other infill materials. The rubber crumb is too big for most drop spreaders and has a tendency of clogging the spreader. However, due to its characteristics it is much easier to disperse once it is on the turf.

To get started, fill your wheelbarrow with the rubber crumb material. Position the wheelbarrow in a needed area, reach in with both hands and grab as much as you can carry. Simply throw the rubber crumb onto the turf until you have the entire area filled. You will want enough infill material to fill in between the fibers without completely covering the tips of the fiber. It is all right if some areas have more infill than others at this point of the process. You will be brushing the infill in with a power broom or stiff bristle broom to even out the rubber grinds.

Brooming the rubber grinds is a required step to work the infill down into the fibers of the turf. It also helps disperse the infill and even out the high spots created during the application of the rubber grinds.

Using a stiff bristle broom, use short brisk strokes against the grain to work the rubber down into the fibers and to the backing material. Continue brooming until the blades are standing up and you have an even layer of rubber.

The final step of the infill process is wetting down the turf with a garden hose. This helps drop the infill material down into the fibers and to the base. It also helps clean excess dust and debris left behind during the infill process.

Simply hose down the area side to side with your garden hose. Make sure to wet down the entire area to ensure all infill materials are settled. Repeat as often as necessary.

Current Health Concerns about Rubber Crumb Materials

(there has been a lot of news coverage so we wanted to address the concerns as best as we can with current information)

Q: What materials can be found in the artificial turf crumb rubber?
A: The crumb rubber used in artificial turf is mainly composed of recycled tires, which contain man-made and natural rubber. Certain materials have been identified in the crumb rubber, including:

polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)
metals, such as zinc and iron
volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
latex

Q: Can people be exposed to the materials found in crumb rubber?
A: There are three possible ways that people might be exposed:

Accidentally ingesting small amounts of material by placing fingers in the mouth or not washing hands before eating after playing on the fields.
Breathing in dust created from playing on the field or from vapors given off by the turf.
Direct skin contact with the crumb rubber.

Q: Are there any health concerns related to crumb rubber exposure?
A: Several scientific research studies carried out in the United States and Europe have examined the chemical composition of crumb rubber. These studies have assessed the potential exposures and health risks for people using turf fields. Based on these research findings, health risks are unlikely from exposure to the levels of chemicals found in artificial turf. However, there are limitations to these studies and more research is needed.

Q: Can people be exposed to these chemicals from other sources?
A: Many of the chemicals found in crumb rubber are very common in the urban environment. People can be exposed through normal daily activities including breathing air, eating food, and by getting dirt or dust on their skin. For example, rubber dust is created from the wear and tear of tires on roads and is a source of city air and soil pollution. PAHs come from the exhaust of engines, smoke from fires and cigarettes, dust-containing soot, urban soil and char-broiled foods. Gasoline, paint, building materials, trees and many other sources release VOCs into the air.

Playgrounds and Synthetic TurfFields

There have been concerns about the health implications of the use of recycledtire crumb in playgrounds and in synthetic turf athletic fields. In response tothese concerns, EPA conducted a Scoping-Level Field Monitoring Study ofSynthetic Turf Fields and Playgrounds. The final report wasissued in 2009 and concluded that on average, concentrations of componentsmonitored in this study were below levels of concern. To supplement this study’slimited data, EPA met with state and local representatives in 2010 to reviewother available field monitoring studies including a 2010study conducted by the state of Connecticut which concluded thatexposures and risks were not elevated (relative to what is commonly found inoutdoor air) for either children or adults using the fields.

A 2010 report(PDF) (13 pp, 238.24 K) by the California Department of Resources Recycling andRecovery examined the possible human health risks of outdoor athletic fieldsmade from artificial turf containing recycled crumb rubber with respect to skinabrasions, bacteria harbored by the turf, inhalable particulate matter, andvolatile organic compounds. The report concluded these fields do not pose aserious public health concern, with the possible exception of an increased skinabrasion rate on artificial turf relative to natural turf.

At this point, EPA does not believe that the field monitoring data collectedprovides evidence of an elevated health risk resulting from the use of recycledtire crumb in playgrounds or in synthetic turf athletic fields. Ultimately, theuse of recycled tire crumb or any other playground materials is a state andlocal decision.

15' Wide - 3/8" Premium Nylon - Material Only

One of the main benefits of our nylon greens, is its all round performance is unmatched. Whether for strictly putting or putting along with longer approach shots this is the turf of choice. This product can be installed in many different environments, indoor & outdoor. It is easy to seam and will hide the seam well if installed properly. This turf has a good UVA resistant factor and holds up well in all climates. All Nylon & Nylon sand filled synthetic putting greens have [memory]. The fibers are heat set during the manufacturing process at 230 degrees and will resist becoming matted down by springing back to their original upright position.

Our Nylon synthetic putting green is much denser than our polypropylene sand filled putting green. Nylon is also a much stronger fiber than polypropylene and will resist fading and wear in all weather conditions.

When TJB-INC does a local installation, we prefer to use natural Bluegrass sod or sow grass seed turf instead of synthetic fringe grass. The natural grass fringe lend itself to a more natural look for the putting green and can alter play by changing the mowing height as desired through out the year.

NOTE: We get a lot of questions about chipping on to the green surfaces, and which surface material to purchase. We advise these customers that size of the green is more important than the style of putting green surface. All of the surfaces will hold a chip shot, but not if your green is 12' x 12' and you are chipping from 150 yds out. To hold a chip shot from 60 yds out, you should have at least 600 sqft of putting green surface to handle the ball's roll out (unless you have a perfect back-spin on the ball). Smaller greens are great for putting practice and Bump & Runs.

PREMIUM 5.0-OZ SEAMING TAPE/BINDER FABRIC w/Coated Poly Backing

Seaming tape is a heavy 5.0 oz point bonded polypropylene fabric with a polyethylene coating on one side that you use to hold adhesive on to and bond two pieces of carpet together from the bottom. Adhesive is not part of the seam tape and needs to be purchased separately.
The ploy backing/coating keeps the adhesive from bleeding through the backside of the tape and adhering to the "sub-flooring/base material" allowing for easy future removal of the turf.
Excellent for use over concrete, shock pad, drainage mat system, or crushed agregate.

The Premium Turf surface will be rectangler when delivered. If used for golf fringe, just cut off what you need to create your fringe. Please remember to pre-plan so to eliminate waste and order enough Premium Turf to complete your job correctly.
If you are using this surface inside pool areas to provide a "no maintenance" grass area, use the rubber infill for a very soft surface to lay towels & chairs on.

TJB-INC INSTALLATION TIPS

SUB-BASE

Remove sod if necessary.
Grade must be at least 3 inches below the border (curbing, edging, patio, etc.).
Install at least 2-4 inches of 1/4" stone aggregate or compacted soil. Bring the grade up to 1 inch below the border Level and disperse aggregate with landscape rake.
Lightly soak the aggregate or soil.
Compact area using a hand roller.
More material may be added to low areas during this process.

Note: Aggregate & soil will stick to the roller if too wet.

SEAMS

Precisely cut the edge against the tufted row.
When seams are in position, place a nail approximately 18 inches from the seam to secure the turf.
Fold back the turf and hold with a temporary weight.
Lay 12-18 inch urethane seam cloth or biner fabric directly under the seam.
Secure cloth with a nail at the end of the seams.
Pour and spread adhesive on the cloth. (use scrap piece to spread adhesive) Remove the weight from the folds.
Slowly and simultaneously lay both sides of the turf on the adhesive. Avoid overlapping the backing. In addition, make sure the fibers do not come in contact with the adhesive.
Apply weight on the seams and allow 1hour to dry.
When complete, seams may be reinforced with nails.

EDGES

Overlap edges with turf.
Secure the position of the turf with nails.
As with seaming, fold back turf to the edge exposing the backside.
Cut vertical relief cuts to create smaller sections to work with. On the backside, cut the excess turf precisely to the edge.

Note: Turf should be cut within 1/8 inch from the edge.

INFILL

Infill not required but can be added at this time depending upon your

particular application. You can use dry fine or extra-fine silica sand

available at any home center for balast. Rubber crumb can then be

added for extra cusioning as required for your application.

The Premium Turf/Fringe (941) is sold in a 15' width. We have listed many common sizes, but we can custom cut any length you need that is not listed on this site. (Maximum single roll length is 150' & minimum is 3'.) If you need to add 1 or 2' to your roll length, just check the boxes above and it will be added to your order.

IMPORTANT: Please inspect your shipment carefully at time of delivery to ensure none of the materials are damaged. We take great care in packaging your materials to ensure their safe delivery. If the product(s) should be damaged, BE SURE to take several pictures and note the damages on the freight carriers Bill of Lading before signing for receipt of the material with the driver. This MUST be done to file a claim to get your shipment corrected.

ALSO PLEASE BE AWARE AND PREPARED as freight carriers arrive with CURBSIDE DELIVERY ONLY for any non-commercial deliveries (no dock). This is for your benefit, as they are concerned about damaging your driveway and property.

If you will be receiving artificial turf rolls, please know that the Truck Driver is not responsible to assist with removal of any turf rolls from the truck. You will need to plan to have additional assistance or adequate equipment on site to off load materials once the truck arrives, as the materials will be very heavy.

If a liftgate was requested to assist with offloading any pallet items, the driver will only unload the pallets to the ground on curbside. It will be your responsibility to move the pallets from the curbside to your driveway or onto your property or job site. Pallet jacks are not provided by the driver/freight carrier to move material from curbside to your property. It will be your responsibility to move any materials from curbside at this point on.

The extra crimp in the thatch layer, called "Spring-Set" actually adds about 100% more to the crush-proof factor. Carefully examine other competitor's Fringes and see how much extra crimp our Fringe has. Our Fringe has the crimp look like a small spring. This resists crushing and matting that is common with "other" fringe greens sold by our compitition.
Polyethelene is very soft but tough. It will not crush and if it does, the crush marks will bounce right out.

The Premium Turf surface will be rectangler when delivered. If used for golf fringe, just cut off what you need to create your fringe. Please remember to pre-plan so to eliminate waste and order enough Premium Turf to complete your job correctly.
If you are using this surface inside pool areas to provide a "no maintenance" grass area, use the rubber infill for a very soft surface to lay towels & chairs on.

TJB-INC INSTALLATION TIPS

SUB-BASE

Remove sod if necessary.
Grade must be at least 3 inches below the border (curbing, edging, patio, etc.).
Install at least 2-4 inches of 1/4" stone aggregate or compacted soil. Bring the grade up to 1 inch below the border Level and disperse aggregate with landscape rake.
Lightly soak the aggregate or soil.
Compact area using a hand roller.
More material may be added to low areas during this process.

Note: Aggregate & soil will stick to the roller if too wet.

SEAMS

Precisely cut the edge against the tufted row.
When seams are in position, place a nail approximately 18 inches from the seam to secure the turf.
Fold back the turf and hold with a temporary weight.
Lay 12-18 inch urethane seam cloth or biner fabric directly under the seam.
Secure cloth with a nail at the end of the seams.
Pour and spread adhesive on the cloth. (use scrap piece to spread adhesive) Remove the weight from the folds.
Slowly and simultaneously lay both sides of the turf on the adhesive. Avoid overlapping the backing. In addition, make sure the fibers do not come in contact with the adhesive.
Apply weight on the seams and allow 1hour to dry.
When complete, seams may be reinforced with nails.

EDGES

Overlap edges with turf.
Secure the position of the turf with nails.
As with seaming, fold back turf to the edge exposing the backside.
Cut vertical relief cuts to create smaller sections to work with. On the backside, cut the excess turf precisely to the edge.

Note: Turf should be cut within 1/8 inch from the edge.

INFILL

Infill not required but can be added at this time depending upon your

particular application. You can use dry fine or extra-fine silica sand

available at any home center for balast. Rubber crumb can then be

added for extra cusioning as required for your application.

Premium Indoor/Outdoor Green Colored Adhesive For Synthetic Turf

XGS SEAM GLUE is a moisture curing one-component polyurethane adhesive. It is a slow reacting adhesive intended for use in bonding many substrates to the backing material of synthetic grass, during the splicing process on putting greens, althetic fields, playgrounds and other sporting applications. TJB-INC INSTALLATION TIPS:

Condition the area to be installed. Make sure adhesive and surfaces are at 45°F (7°C) or above for 48 hours before, during and 48 hours after installation. Surfaces must be sound, smooth, dry, clean and free of excessive moisture or alkali. Remove dirt, wax, loose paint and all other foreign matter that would interfere with a good bond such as curing agents and sealers. If using seam tape/binder material, make sure it is free of debris before applying the adhesive.

Directions for installation:
1. Layout your binder/seam tape
2. Open the glue and pour or spray thin layer on the binder tape. Apply a continuous bed of about 1/16” thick x 6” width, approximately 3” per side to be bonded
3. Mist once or twice with regular water via airless sprayer
4. After application to the substrate or binder fabric, wait about 15 – 25 minutes for adhesive to absorb surface and atmospheric moisture, and then lay down turf. Longer wait time required under drier conditions.
5. Once small bubbles start to develop on the surface of the adhesive, press the artificial grass firmly, applying enough pressure to ensure full contact between both. (you won’t need anything to weigh it down, weighing it down can cause our glue to push out against the turf).
6. Wait 5 minutes - do not lift the turf as lifting will not allow any adhesive to adhere.
7. After 10-15 additional minutes, press seams ensuring contact between both surfaces (a weighted roller may be used for field applications).
8. You can begin brooming and infilling if required after 2-3 hours when the adhesive will harden to the touch.
9. Adhesive will be completely cured in 24 hours. Since XGS SEAM GLUE is a moisture-curing adhesive, the humidity in the air, substrate and artificial grass backing will ultimately affect the outcome of the bonding. Extreme temperature variations will also affect the curing process.
Storage:
The shelf life of XGS SEAM GLUE adhesive is 3 - 6 months under the following conditions: The adhesive should be stored at 60º-80º F., and protected against any form of moisture in the original unopened container. It is very important to close the container immediately after dispensing. This is extremely important to reduce moisture absorption
It is strongly recommended to familiarize with the product before use on a large scale. The outcome of the finished product will depend on the experience and skill of the person applying it
